SSB 9/28/25: Why Cleanliness Is the New Employee Wellness Program

Blog

Cleanliness is the New Wellness

Not long ago, employee wellness programs were mainly about fitness challenges, standing desks, or subsidized gym memberships. While these perks still matter, the pandemic fundamentally changed how people view health at work. Today, a clean and healthy environment isn’t just a background requirement — it’s a key part of employee wellness.
For companies competing to attract and keep talent, cleanliness has become as important as pay, flexibility, and culture. Workers want more than hand sanitizer stations — they want visible, science-backed hygiene programs that protect their health and improve their daily experience.

Cleanliness and Health Outcomes
Studies consistently show the connection between workplace cleanliness and health:
•    Poor indoor air quality leads to respiratory problems, fatigue, and higher absenteeism.
•    High-touch surfaces that aren’t regularly disinfected can spread viruses, causing lost workdays.
• Clean, clutter-free spaces reduce stress and support mental focus.
In short, a well-planned cleaning program acts as a wellness program — it lowers sick days, cuts healthcare costs, and boosts overall morale.
Beyond Compliance: A Culture of Care
When companies treat cleanliness as part of wellness, they send a strong message: We care about your health every day, not just during flu season. This mindset shifts cleaning from a cost to a strategic tool that enhances culture and employee experience.
And as hybrid work changes how offices are used, employees are deciding where to spend their time. A spotless, well-maintained workspace becomes a reason to come in — and a competitive edge for organizations trying to rebuild their in-person culture.
Looking Ahead
The future of wellness programs won’t just focus on yoga rooms or step challenges. It will emphasize environments that actively support human health and performance. Cleanliness is no longer invisible — it’s part of the brand, the culture, and the employee value proposition.
Forward-looking companies that embrace this shift will not only reduce absenteeism but also improve retention, morale, and productivity. In today’s competitive job market, that’s a wellness return no organization can afford to ignore.

All of the above sounds great, and guess what, you can help your customers implement this because you are a cleaning professional.

Jancast # 198 – What is the immigration crackdown doing to the cleaning industry

This week we’re digging into how the recent immigration crackdown is affecting the janitorial and commercial cleaning workforce. With more enforcement actions, heavier fines, and fewer workers willing to show up, companies across the country are feeling the pressure.. I am going to let my AI co-host cover it, the one thing they couldn’t handle is the pronunciation of ICE, they call it I.C.E.

Clean first: Remove dirt, dust, and organic material
Apply disinfectant liberally to surfaces
Follow dwell time: Let the product sit wet on the surface for the amount of time listed on the label (usually 1–10 minutes)
Air out rooms: Measles can linger in the air for hours, so proper ventilation is key
Focus on high-touch surfaces: doorknobs, light switches, chairs, handrails, remote controls, and countertops
