Tricks, Treats, and Timely Sales

This week’s Sunday Sales Blast is a little personal — my birthday was on Halloween. And like Halloween itself, sales can be a mix of tricks, treats, and timing.

In sales, the “trick” is preparation — knowing your customer, anticipating objections, and crafting your offer so it feels irresistible. The “treat” is when that preparation pays off: the order comes in, the customer is thrilled, and you’ve built a relationship that lasts far beyond the initial sale.

But here’s the key lesson from Halloween: you don’t get treats unless you knock on doors. Too many salespeople wait for customers to come to them. This week, take a page from the trick-or-treaters — get out there, make the calls, send the follow-ups, and show up with something worth “opening the door” for.

Every door you knock on might not open, but the ones that do? That’s where the real rewards are.

So, as the candy wrappers get cleaned up and November kicks off, remember: success in sales — just like a full Halloween bag — comes to those who put in the steps.

In case you missed it last week Jancast #200 is up

After more than 20 years, Jancast remains the first and longest-running podcast dedicated to the Jan/San industry. Over the years, we have had thousands of downloads from professionals around the world.

When we launched, Jancast was audio-only, but in January 2013 we made the leap to video—and we’ve been evolving ever since. Fun fact: in our very first year, we won the 2005 ISSA Innovation Award.

In this milestone episode, my co-host Mark Warner and I take a look back at where we started, how far the industry has come, and what’s ahead. We hope you enjoy the recap!

3. How to Disinfect Properly
Clean first: Remove dirt, dust, and organic material
Apply disinfectant liberally to surfaces
Follow dwell time: Let the product sit wet on the surface for the amount of time listed on the label (usually 1–10 minutes)
Air out rooms: Measles can linger in the air for hours, so proper ventilation is key
Focus on high-touch surfaces: doorknobs, light switches, chairs, handrails, remote controls, and countertops
