SSB 8/3/25: It is August, time to relax a bit

Blog

Now that we’re into August, let’s take some time and relax a little bit. One of the things that I do is listen to books on Audible, since I can do other stuff at the same time. Here are three distinctly different books that I would suggest-

Apple in China: The Capture of the World’s Greatest Company
By: Patrick McGee
This book rivets with its portrayal of how Apple allowed itself to become dependent on China for a huge percentage of its manufacturing, making it vulnerable and unwittingly laying the groundwork for the Asian superpower to rival the US in technological expertise.

A Walk in the Woods
By: Bill Bryson
A Walk in the Woods. Following his return to America after 20 years in Britain, Bryson decided to reacquaint himself with his native country by walking the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, which stretches from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.  An adventure, a comedy, a lament, and a celebration, A Walk in the Woods is destined to become a modern classic of travel literature.

Project Hail Mary
By: Andy Weir
A lone astronaut must save the earth from disaster in this incredible new science-based thriller from the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Martian.
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission – and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

3. How to Disinfect Properly
Clean first: Remove dirt, dust, and organic material
Apply disinfectant liberally to surfaces
Follow dwell time: Let the product sit wet on the surface for the amount of time listed on the label (usually 1–10 minutes)
Air out rooms: Measles can linger in the air for hours, so proper ventilation is key
Focus on high-touch surfaces: doorknobs, light switches, chairs, handrails, remote controls, and countertops
