Do You Know The 10–15 Foot Ice Melt Rule?

Four simple rules to follow-

1. Maintain a Pellet-Free Zone Near Entrances
To reduce tracking, residue, and slip hazards:
Keep pellet ice melt at least 10–15 feet away from all building entrances.

Pellets can: Track inside on shoes, create slippery interior floors, damage carpets, mats, grout, and floor finishes, leave white chloride stains and halos and much more

2. Use a Two-Stage Matting System
A good matting setup removes up to 90% of moisture and contaminants before they enter the building.

3. Apply Ice Melt Correctly Outside the Buffer Zone When applying pellets further from the doorway

4. Switch to Liquids Within 10–15 Feet of Entryways
Liquids are ideal for pre-treating before storms and spot-treating slick spots near doors

If you end up with a lot of pellet residue in the building, use an ice melt neutralizer like Winterinse. A neutral cleaner will not clean that mess.

3. How to Disinfect Properly
Clean first: Remove dirt, dust, and organic material
Apply disinfectant liberally to surfaces
Follow dwell time: Let the product sit wet on the surface for the amount of time listed on the label (usually 1–10 minutes)
Air out rooms: Measles can linger in the air for hours, so proper ventilation is key
Focus on high-touch surfaces: doorknobs, light switches, chairs, handrails, remote controls, and countertops
