Disinfectant products that control 2019-nCoV (2019 Coronavirus)

The currently accepted product label (from an EPA registered product) should have disinfectant efficacy claims against at least one of the following viral pathogen groupings:

a) A product should be approved by EPA to inactivate at least one large or one small non-enveloped virus to be eligible for use against an enveloped emerging viral pathogen.
b) A product should be approved by EPA to inactivate at least one small, non- enveloped virus to be eligible for use against a large, non-enveloped emerging viral pathogen.
c) A product should be approved by EPA to inactivate at least two small, non- enveloped viruses with each from a different viral family to be eligible for use against a small, non-enveloped emerging viral pathogen.

EPA has allowed under the above guidance that products that kill Norovirus, Rotavirus and Adenovirus type 7 are effective against the 2019-nCoV (2019 Coronavirus).

FDA warns makers of Purell to stop advertising that it can prevent Ebola, the flu and more.

The warning comes at a time when the new coronavirus fuels worldwide anxiety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning letter to the makers of Purell hand sanitizer, telling the company to stop marketing the product as effective in preventing Ebola, the flu and more.
The warning letter to parent company GOJO Industries, published on the FDA’s website last week, lists examples from Purell websites and social media accounts that claim the hand sanitizer “may be effective against viruses” such as Ebola and influenza.
