SSB 5/10/26: What Hantavirus Reminds Us About Cleaning

Blog

Hantavirus?

You probably don’t need to panic about Hantavirus, but it is a good reminder to take rodent control and proper cleaning procedures seriously.

Cases are still relatively rare, but the virus can be severe and is typically linked to exposure to rodent droppings, urine, or contaminated dust in enclosed or poorly maintained areas. The bigger takeaway for facilities is that prevention matters — good housekeeping, pest control, and proper cleanup procedures are critical.

For the cleaning industry, it reinforces an important point: cleaning is not just about appearance anymore — it’s about health protection and risk reduction.

If you have a customer call about Hantavirus, you can say, there are very few cases, but our team can conduct an on-site facility assessment to evaluate cleaning practices, identify problem areas, and recommend solutions that may improve results while reducing labor and operational costs.
Jancast # 212 April 30th, 2026 – Is it Force Majeure time?

So the trend with supply chain issues is starting to look like back in the days of the pandemic, but that was a slow process over the years, versus what we are moving into. In this episode, we cover the recent price jump with key raw materials. On our last Jancast, we discussed how freight was going to be impacted, and we’ve now received the first substantial increase in chemical products, mainly raw materials, with a significant increase in ingredients like propylene glycol. What else could we see increasing on cost and a lower level of supply in the market place.

3. How to Disinfect Properly
Clean first: Remove dirt, dust, and organic material
Apply disinfectant liberally to surfaces
Follow dwell time: Let the product sit wet on the surface for the amount of time listed on the label (usually 1–10 minutes)
Air out rooms: Measles can linger in the air for hours, so proper ventilation is key
Focus on high-touch surfaces: doorknobs, light switches, chairs, handrails, remote controls, and countertops
