Happy almost Labor Day!
Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday in September, was born out of the American labor movement of the late 19th century—a time when 12-hour days, six-day workweeks, and unsafe factories were common. Workers began organizing for fair pay, shorter hours, and safer conditions, and they wanted a public day to recognize their contributions.
The first Labor Day parade took place in New York City on September 5, 1882, organized by the Central Labor Union. Thousands marched, bands played, and families picnicked—establishing the blend of advocacy and celebration that still defines the holiday.
Momentum spread quickly. In 1887, Oregon became the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday, with Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York following that same year. The turning point came in 1894: after the nationwide Pullman Strike underscored mounting tensions between workers and industry, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making Labor Day a federal holiday. Congress set the date in early September rather than May 1 (International Workers’ Day) to create a distinct American tradition.
Why September? Strategically, it offered a unifying, end-of-summer celebration that honored workers without amplifying the more radical politics associated with May Day. Parades, union picnics, and speeches became the norm—part tribute, part community festival.
I hope you and your family have a great day.

3. How to Disinfect Properly
Clean first: Remove dirt, dust, and organic material
Apply disinfectant liberally to surfaces
Follow dwell time: Let the product sit wet on the surface for the amount of time listed on the label (usually 1–10 minutes)
Air out rooms: Measles can linger in the air for hours, so proper ventilation is key
Focus on high-touch surfaces: doorknobs, light switches, chairs, handrails, remote controls, and countertops
